Statement by High Representative Catherine Ashton
on the adoption of restrictive measures following the foiled plot to
assassinate the Saudi Ambassador to the US

Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and
Vice-President of the Commission, made today the following statement:

“Gravely concerned by allegations and charges brought against individuals involved in a foiled
attempt to kill the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the United States, the EU today took the
precautionary decision to subject five persons to restrictive measures aimed at combating
terrorism.

As a result of this action, any financial assets of these individuals held in the EU will be frozen, and
no funds may be made available to them.

The decision taken today, with relevant details about the individuals concerned, will be published in
the EU Official Journal of 22 October.”
